Christian C. Carbonell is a Colombian artist and human rights lawyer whose digital collages explore social justice in an increasingly materialistic world.
His humanitarian work across several countries—and his experience supporting community-led initiatives as a source of resilience—has shaped an artistic practice rooted in the stories, symbols, and creative expressions of several communities.
Combining his own photography with images collected and transformed from open sources, C. Carbonell examines colonization, the commodification of love and human relationships, and the commercialization of modern football.
His latest series, Almost Local, reflects on how football has drifted away from its communities and supporters toward wealthy owners, corporations, and profit, while preserving a deep nostalgia for the stories, rituals, and traditions that made it the world’s game.
